Founded in 2005 by four local enthusiasts who began with just one table and net, Stanmore Table Tennis Club has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Nestled within Stanmore Park Community Centre, the club has steadily grown into a thriving hub for table tennis in the north-west London area. Over the years, a strong membership has developed, creating both a vibrant training community and several successful league teams.
The club is led by a dedicated committee, with Barry Stacey as Chairman and Joel Fernandes serving as Head Coach and Development Officer. Committed to strong governance and transparency, we foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where both juniors and adults feel part of the community from their very first session.
From its modest roots in 2005, the club has expanded its scope — now offering full coaching programmes, regular social sessions, and competitive teams across various leagues. Today, Stanmore is recognised not just locally, but regionally, for its commitment to developing players and delivering match-weary adrenaline in league play.
Stanmore Table Tennis Club thrives on three core values: inclusivity, integrity, and personal growth. We warmly welcome players of all ages—starting from age seven—to enjoy the game, learn together, and challenge themselves in the leagues. We’re equally proud of beginners learning their first serve and committed players working towards representing the club in national junior and cadet leagues.
On the court, our culture emphasises respectful behaviour, fair competition, and friendship. In training sessions and matches alike, we celebrate sporting etiquette: showing respect in victory and humility in defeat. More than just building champions, this approach fosters personal character and team spirit.
Beyond the tables, Stanmore supports social connection. The club provides a family-friendly environment where players, parents, and coaches mingle; this strong sense of belonging is what sets us apart. We believe sporting communities are about more than the game—they’re about people, shared experiences, and life-long connections.
At the heart of our club’s success is our coaching structure and competitive pathway. Led by Joel Fernandes (Level 2 Lead Coach with county-level captaincy) and Josh Fernandes (Level 1 coach focused on junior development), our coaching team helps players advance from basics to championship-level performance. Coaching sessions run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, along with Sunday mornings—offering a mix of group practice and individual lessons tailored to personal goals.
The club competes in both the Harrow & Wembley League and the Barnet League, fielding teams across multiple divisions to match players with the right competitive environment. Fixtures run from September through to April and are held both at our home venue and away at nearby clubs. We are proud to also support younger members in national circuits such as the National Cadet, Junior Cadet, and Junior British Leagues—helping local juniors rise through competitive ranks.
The result of this coaching and competition structure is visible in our club’s achievements: county/league titles, county team leadership, and regular representation in higher-level competitions. Whether you’re aiming for weekly match excitement or long-term development, Stanmore offers a pathway that supports beginning paddles through to national rubbers.
