Birmingham 2 Star Success
We were pleased to see Josh represent Stanmore Table Tennis Club with distinction at the Birmingham 2 Star Under 19s tournament on 28th July 2024. Competing in Band 1, Josh delivered another strong performance, finishing 2nd overall after a very close three-way countback at the end of the group.
Josh won five out of six matches on the day, showing great control and resilience in what proved to be a competitive and well-balanced group. His wins came against Omar Faruqe Mohammad Wasi, Shivam Gopal, Vihan Nirmal, Hossam El-Iraqi, and Gopal Rathore — each of whom brought different styles and challenges. Josh adapted well across all matches and was able to maintain consistency throughout the day.
With three players tied on results, the Band 1 group was ultimately decided on countback — a frustrating outcome for any player, especially after such a strong performance. However, Josh handled the situation professionally, and his overall showing remains something to be proud of.
This result adds to a series of consistent performances Josh has produced this season. His progress in tournaments continues to reflect the effort he’s putting in at training and his ability to apply that work in match conditions. He continues to build confidence in his game and develop greater tactical awareness against a range of opponents.
As a club, we value results like this not just for the medals, but for what they say about our players’ character and progression. Josh once again demonstrated the qualities we look for — focus, composure, and the desire to improve.
Well done, Josh, on another excellent tournament. We’re pleased with your continued development and look forward to seeing more from you over the rest of the season.
