Elvin Junior Cup
A big congratulations to our Stanmore Division 2 team – Jannak, Ryan, and Nishil – who were runner-up finalists in the Elvin Junior Cup on 26th March 2024. This is one of the more prestigious junior competitions in the Wembley and Harrow League, and making it to the final is already a major achievement, particularly given the strength of the teams involved.
The format of the competition brought together junior teams across divisions, and our boys, representing a Division 2 side, had to go up against teams from higher divisions throughout the tournament. In the final, they faced Apollo, a strong and experienced team from Division 1 – a tall order for any team, let alone one from a lower division.
Despite the challenge, the Stanmore boys gave it everything. They approached the match with a positive attitude, showed great teamwork and fought for every point. Although they ultimately fell short in the final, there’s no doubt that the experience was invaluable and the performance impressive.
Jannak, Ryan and Nishil showed maturity and resilience beyond their years. Each one of them played their part in helping Stanmore reach the final. It’s not every day a Division 2 team pushes all the way through a knockout competition like this and finishes just one step away from lifting the trophy. The fact that they had to face a Division 1 side in the final only highlights how well they did to get there.
Everyone at Stanmore Table Tennis Club is proud of their performance and the way they carried themselves throughout the tournament. Well done boys – finishing as Elvin Junior Cup finalists is something to be proud of, and we know there’s much more to come from this talented team.
