London Academy Success
A big well done to Daniyal and Bethany from Stanmore Table Tennis Club, who both delivered excellent performances at the London Academy 2 Star Tournament in Edgware on 9th November 2024. Both players made it into Band 2, with Bethany finishing in 2nd place and Daniyal securing 3rd place, earning well-deserved medals for their efforts. The club was also proudly represented by Riki Shah, who finished 5th in Band 2.
In the morning session, Daniyal was in top form. He picked up strong wins over Iliona Kola, Louie Benson, and Dacey Parker, placing second in his group and qualifying for Band 2. In the afternoon, he raised his level again, claiming standout wins over Riki Shah and Isabella Xiao Xu, who is ranked #5 nationally for Girls Under 11s. These wins helped Daniyal finish in 3rd place, capping off a brilliant day of competitive table tennis.
Bethany also had a fantastic tournament. She had a clean sweep in the morning, winning against Matilda Hopkins, Luca Turner, and Hattie Xiao to top her group. In Band 2, she kept her momentum going, with confident wins over Isabella Xiao Xu, Riki Shah, and Daniyal Janmohamed, securing a superb 2nd place finish. Bethany played with real consistency and focus all day.
A mention as well to Riki Shah, who had a very positive morning, with victories over Noah Godfrey, Lucas Leyens, and Lucas Bordalo. Reaching Band 2 at this level is a strong achievement, and although the afternoon didn’t go his way, Riki is showing real improvement and progress.
All in all, a strong day for Stanmore TTC. Well done to all three!
