Founded in 2005 by four passionate enthusiasts who brought their own table and net to Stanmore Park Community Centre, Stanmore Table Tennis Club has since grown into a cornerstone of the local sports scene. From those early days in a borrowed hall, the club now hosts a diverse membership across age groups and skill levels. Our senior and junior teams consistently enter both the Barnet League and the Wembley & Harrow League, establishing our presence as a key regional competition hub.
Operating as a registered not-for-profit organisation, the club is guided by a dedicated committee that includes Chairman Barry Stacey and Head Coach & Development Officer Joel Fernandes, who brings both playing and coaching credentials to the role. Our transparent governance structure ensures Stanmore remains accessible, inclusive, and community-driven—prioritising enjoyment and excellence equally.
Over nearly two decades, the club has developed a structured programme comprising group coaching sessions, competitive league teams, and private lessons, while retaining the warm, welcoming atmosphere that first defined it. Whether you’re picking up a paddle at seven years old or re-engaging with table tennis competitively as an adult, Stanmore provides a professional but friendly environment where every member is valued and encouraged. This unique blend of grassroots spirit and competitive ambition has placed Stanmore firmly on the table tennis map, empowering players to achieve their personal best while contributing to a supportive local community.
Stanmore Table Tennis Club is built on a foundation of community, inclusivity, and personal growth. Though competitiveness is welcome, our club values character development just as much as technical skill. We believe in nurturing integrity, respect, sportsmanship, and mutual support—on and off the court.
Inclusivity is not just a buzzword for us. We take players from as young as 7 years old, embracing all abilities and backgrounds. Our pathway encourages steady progress: from beginners to league participants, knowing that each member’s journey enriches the club. Beyond technique, we foster teamwork and empathy, emphasising that table tennis is as much about relationships and shared goals as it is about winning points.
Our club ethos also gives players the opportunity to shine at both regional and national levels. Juniors qualify for prestigious competitions such as the National Cadet League, Junior Cadet League, and Junior British League, while seniors can pursue entry in the Harrow & Wembley and Barnet leagues. By focusing on development and encouragement, we aim to blend grassroots participation with elite ambition, ensuring members feel supported in both their personal and competitive aspirations.
At Stanmore, kindness, humility, and encouragement are hallmarks of every practice and match. We celebrate each win, coach resilience in defeat, and believe that the friendships built here are as valuable as any trophy.
Stanmore’s coaching programme is the engine driving our success, led by Joel Fernandes, a UKCC Level 2 Lead Coach and non-playing captain of Middlesex County teams, and supported by Josh Fernandes, a dedicated UKCC Level 1 coach specialising in junior development. Alongside elite guidance from Joel, Josh plays a key role running junior sessions—tailoring training to the needs of young athletes and creating a nurturing atmosphere in every lesson.
Training occurs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sunday mornings, where players benefit from expert-led group sessions as well as private coaching opportunities. The club offers a range of competitive experiences: seniors and juniors participate in the Harrow & Wembley and Barnet Leagues, while our younger talents advance through the National Cadet League, Junior Cadet League, and Junior British League. Stanmore’s cadet and junior teams have claimed division titles and continued to represent Middlesex at regional and national level—proof of the strong developmental environment within the club.
This coaching-led, competition-focused model supports every member’s growth. Beginners build confidence, league players discover their competitive edge, and gifted juniors gain a clear path to represent county or country. With Joel’s deep experience and Josh’s emerging role, we offer both high-level coaching and a familial club atmosphere.
Stanmore Table Tennis Club doesn’t just build players, it builds potential. Whether you're just starting out or aiming for elite performance, our coaching, competitive structure, and values-based ethos position every member to thrive in sport—and in life.
