Philippe Shines at Annual Championships

Stanmore is pleased with Philippe, who once again showed his own distinctive style and a strong competitive spirit at the Ping is King Annual Championship at Barnet Table Tennis Club.
Philippe began his campaign in Group B, which featured several tough opponents. He made an excellent start with a straight sets win over Michael Papadopoulos, taking the match 11-9, 11-6. He then faced challenging matches against Lewis Budd, Rohan Nanda and Adil Islam, which all went the way of his opponents. His final group match was against fellow Stanmore player and younger competitor Dilan Raikundalia. This was a closely fought contest that went to a deciding set, which Philippe narrowly lost.
Following the group stage, Philippe was placed in Band 3. He met Gavin Baylis in his opening match and produced a decisive win to move forward. This was followed by a tough semi final against the experienced Malvik Patel, where Philippe again rose to the occasion and came through with another excellent victory.
This set up a final against Xenofon Papadopoulos in what proved to be an exciting and high quality match. Xenofon took the first set 11-7, but Philippe responded well to claim the second 13-11. The third set was extremely close and went to Xenofon 12-10.
Philippe showed great determination in the fourth set, refusing to give up and winning it 11-8 to force a final set decider. Unfortunately, the deciding set went against Philippe in another very tight finish, losing 12-10.
Stanmore is extremely proud of Philippe. He competes both in France and for Stanmore in England and continues to achieve good, consistent results. He plays with his own style and regularly records some excellent wins. Finishing as runner up in Band 3 and earning a medal is a fantastic achievement and well deserved.
Philippe represents Stanmore in the Harrow and Wembley Table Tennis League, playing for the Stanmore E team. He currently has a win rate of 50 percent and most recently won all three of his matches in November.
Well done Philippe. You are proof that great results can be achieved at any age and that improvement is always possible with commitment and practice.
