Table Tennis Nationals Success
Stanmore Table Tennis Club was thrilled by the remarkable performances of its junior athletes at the prestigious Mark Bates National Finals held at the Brentwood Centre in Essex. In the Under-10 Boys' Singles, young prodigy Daniyal Janmohamed, seeded first and just nine years old, claimed a bronze medal. He dominated his group—defeating Calen Dawson, Oscar Todhunter, Sammy Merrill, Niall Goel, and Jet Xu—then overcame 10th seed Jonti Barnes 3–1 in the quarter-finals, before narrowly falling to Stefan Wierszyllowski, the eventual winner.
Daniyal also impressed in the Under-11 event, winning group matches against Elliot Houghton, Aarush Sujay, Guanghan Zhu, and Zayn Jetha before exiting in the quarter-finals to 7th seed Nicholas Andrei.
Meanwhile, Bethany (third seed in the U11 Girls), secured a place on the podium with a semi-final finish. She edged past Hattie Xiao, Tanvi Srirama, and Sophia Sjokoohideh in her group, lost only to fourth seed Mindy Gao, then fell in the semis to Cindu Xiao, earning a bronze medal.
Bethany also stepped up in the Under-12 Girls’ Singles, defeating Fleur Scivani King, Darcey Parker, Sophie Dodds, and Rabani Ahluwalia before taking on top seed Amber Louise Lemmon in the quarter-finals—where she was ultimately halted.
These outstanding achievements at a national level underline the strength of Stanmore’s junior programme and hint at even brighter successes to come.
