Wembley & Harrow Intermediates Final
A huge well done to Ryan from Stanmore Table Tennis Club, who was crowned Intermediate Champion at the Wembley & Harrow Closed Championships on 1st March 2023.
The Intermediate event is open to players competing in Divisions 3 to 5, and always proves to be a tightly contested category. Ryan, who currently plays in Division 4, showed incredible determination, tactical awareness and composure under pressure to come through the field and claim the title.
What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Ryan beat a player from Division 3 in the final, a higher-ranked opponent who came in with a strong season record. Despite the challenge, Ryan kept his focus and stuck to his game plan, mixing smart placement with consistent forehand and backhand topspin to keep his opponent on the back foot.
The final was a tough contest, with plenty of long rallies and momentum shifts. Ryan took control early on, securing the first set before his opponent responded to level things at 1-1. But from that point on, Ryan found another gear, digging deep and raising the intensity of his play. He went on to take the next two sets and seal the match 3-1, capping off a brilliant run in the tournament.
This is a fantastic achievement and a well-deserved reward for Ryan’s commitment to training and development throughout the season. He’s shown steady progress all year, and this title is a reflection of that hard work paying off on a big stage.
Congratulations Ryan – Intermediate Champion 2023! Your Stanmore TTC family is proud of you, and we look forward to seeing even more great results in the near future.
