Barnet London Youth Games Success

Another proud day for Stanmore Table Tennis Club, as Joel Fernandes took charge of the London Borough of Barnet team at the London Youth Games, held at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Joel was assisted on the day by coach and son Josh Fernandes, and together they led a talented squad that included strong Stanmore representation. Daniyal Janmohamed lined up for the boys team, while the girls team featured Maahi Malde, also from Stanmore, alongside Bethany Yang, who previously trained at the club.
The girls team were equally impressive, winning every one of their group matches to reach the final against Lewisham. It was a tense and closely contested match, with the scores locked at 1 1.
Stepping up when it mattered most, Bethany won the deciding match to seal a magnificent gold medal for Barnet, retaining the title for the second year in a row.
The boys team made an excellent start, winning all of their group matches to book their place in the knockout stages. They followed this up with impressive victories in the quarter final against Harrow and the semi final against Hounslow, showing real composure under pressure.
In the final, they came up against a strong Bromley side. Despite a hard fought battle, the boys narrowly missed out on the top spot, finishing as worthy runners up and taking home the silver medal.
These are outstanding results for the borough, and a huge well done is in order for Joel and Josh, whose excellent coaching on the day helped both teams perform at their very best. A big congratulations also goes to every player who represented Barnet, doing themselves and their club proud.
Once again, Stanmore Table Tennis Club players and coaches are proving themselves among the very best, and we cannot wait to see what they achieve next.
