If you're looking for a table tennis club in North London with expert coaching, a clear route to competition and a welcoming atmosphere, Stanmore Table Tennis Club was built for you. We train from Stanmore Park Community Centre and serve families and players from Harrow, Barnet, Edgware, Wembley and across North West London.
We started with one table and a net. Today we're a registered not-for-profit club with junior and adult teams, league titles, national-level juniors, players selected to represent England, and recognition from Table Tennis England as the second-best club in the country.
This page explains how we got here, how our pathway works, and why so many families call Stanmore Table Tennis Club their second home.
Stanmore Table Tennis Club was founded in 2005 by four enthusiasts who carried their own table and net into Stanmore Park Community Centre. There was no grand plan, just a love of the game and a hall to play in.
Over nearly two decades the club has grown steadily and deliberately. We now run structured group coaching, private lessons, league teams and a pathway into national competition. We've kept the warmth of those early evenings while adding the standards of a serious development club. Because we're a not-for-profit organisation, everything we do goes back into the players.
At the 2026 Pride of Table Tennis Awards, run by Table Tennis England, Stanmore Table Tennis Club was recognised at both regional and national level:
The area-stage winners were chosen from more than 110 nominations. The national citation described our most successful season ever, with strong results at every level of ability and significant growth. It credited a structured, ambitious development environment and described the atmosphere as the club's biggest strength.
Everything at Stanmore Table Tennis Club is designed so that each player improves, whatever their starting point.
Regular coaching. We coach on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. Sessions combine technique, tactics and match play, and groups are small enough for personal feedback.
One-to-one lessons, workshops and camps. Players who want to progress faster can book private coaching. We also run workshops, skills clinics and seasonal camps that focus on areas such as serve and receive, footwork, topspin and match tactics.
Juniors from age seven. Our Sunday junior sessions give younger players a fun, focused start. They learn good habits early, including technique, discipline, sportsmanship and how to win and lose well.
Adults too. Adults can improve in group sessions, join league teams or return to competitive play after a break. There's a level for everyone, from keen beginners to experienced league players.

1. Learn the game. New players start in group coaching, building the grip, stance, footwork and basic strokes that everything else depends on.
2. Train with purpose. As players improve, they move into more focused coaching with match play, tactical work and individual feedback. This is where progress happens, and we treat it that way.
3. Compete locally. Our teams play in the Barnet League and the Wembley & Harrow League, across multiple divisions, from September to April. Local league nights teach players to compete regularly, handle pressure and play for a team. Juniors and adults both take part, and many players find their competitive edge here.
4. Step onto the national stage. Talented juniors enter the National Cadet League, Junior Cadet League and Junior British League, plus the new Cadets British Clubs League. These are team competitions against clubs from across the country. Players learn to perform away from home, against unfamiliar opponents, with teammates counting on them.
5. Compete on England's tournament circuit. Players who want to test themselves individually enter Table Tennis England's ranked tournaments, starting at 1-star level and working up through 2-star, 3-star and beyond. Tournaments give players national rankings and the chance to meet the strongest players in their age group. We encourage players to build experience early. A first tournament is about learning, and the results follow.
6. Represent school, borough, county and region. The next level up is representative honours: school competitions, the London Youth Games for their boroughs, and Middlesex County teams. Stanmore Table Tennis Club players have done all three, and have won medals and titles along the way.
7. Represent England. At the top of the pathway is selection to play for England. Players from Stanmore Table Tennis Club have been selected to represent England at the Primary Schools International, and others have competed on the main English tournament circuit against the country's best. We can't promise any child an England shirt, and nobody honest could. What we can promise is the structure that makes it possible: expert coaching, regular competition, a supportive team around the player and a coach who will travel to watch them.
At every stage, players don't leave the club behind as they move up. A player who competes nationally on Saturday is still at club night on Tuesday, playing and practising with everyone else. That matters more than it sounds.
The secret of the Stanmore Table Tennis Club’s pathway isn't a training drill. It's the culture. At Stanmore Table Tennis Club, whatever your standard, you play with others. Adults help juniors, and juniors help younger juniors. A beginner can end up in a rally with a league captain, and a young player aiming for national competition can end up coaching a newcomer through their first serve. Nobody is kept in a separate box.
This works for everyone. The newer players get patient, free advice and a taste of what good table tennis looks like. The stronger players learn to explain what they do, which makes their own game better, and they learn humility and leadership too. Families notice it quickly. Parents describe a real family feel, with all ages mixing and encouraging each other, and a club that becomes their child's second home.
At Stanmore Table Tennis Club we have proven success including the following -
Local leagues and cups. Stanmore Table Tennis Club’s teams have won division titles in both the Barnet League and the Wembley & Harrow League across a range of divisions. Cup success includes the Harry Finch Trophy, the Olympus Youth Shield and, in 2026, the
Harry Finch Cup, Harry Finch Plate and Elvin Junior Plate. Our juniors have also won singles and doubles titles at the Wembley & Harrow closed championships.
National junior leagues. Our juniors have won division titles in the National Cadet League and National Junior League, and several have been ranked in England's top ten for their age groups.
A girls' programme with a gold-medal start. Building an all-girls team had long been an ambition. In July 2026, our girls took part in the inaugural Cadets Girls British Clubs League and won gold in both divisions in our very first season, with our top team winning every tie.
Individual tournaments. Our players regularly win titles and reach finals at events across the country, including 1-star and 2-star and 4-star tournaments.
Schools, boroughs and county. Stanmore Table Tennis Club players have won medals at the National Schools Finals, won a London Schools' Championships title and represented Barnet, Harrow and Hillingdon at the London Youth Games. We also deliver coaching in
local schools, including Park High School, which has brought more young people into the sport.
Joel is our Head Coach and Development Officer and a UKCC Level 2 Lead Coach with Table Tennis England. He is non-playing captain and coach of the Middlesex County Junior and Cadet teams, and he has helped lead them to national county titles. He still plays and captains in our local league teams, so he knows exactly what his players are going through.
What sets Joel apart is not a list of qualifications. It's his passion and his dedication. Joel has years of coaching experience, and he has never treated the job as a way to make money. He cares about player development, and it shows in everything he does:
Joel was born and raised in India and came up through a humble background where he had to learn life's lessons the hard way. That experience shaped him. He is down to earth and humble, and players pick up on it straight away. He never talks down to anyone, and he has built a club where everybody feels they belong. That's why children and adults alike respond so well to him, and why so many families who left clubs where their child wasn't progressing say they've seen big improvements in a short time.

Barry Stacy and Josh Fernandes also complete the highly successful Stanmore Table Tennis Club team.
Barry Stacey, our Chairman, leads the club and keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes. He is committed to a structured, supportive environment where committed players can improve, compete and represent the club with pride. Members and parents regularly highlight his role in the club's welcoming atmosphere and its professional organisation.
Josh Fernandes is a UKCC Level 1 coach who specialises in junior development. He runs junior sessions tailored to the needs of young athletes and keeps each lesson nurturing and fun. In 2026 he also earned a national schools table tennis award, reflecting his commitment to the next generation.
Together, Joel, Barry and Josh give hours well beyond coaching: organising teams, travelling to tournaments, supporting players on match days and building the culture that makes Stanmore Table Tennis Club what it is.
Competitive success matters at Stanmore Table Tennis Club, but character matters just as much. The club is built on three core values: inclusivity, integrity and personal growth. We teach respect, sportsmanship and mutual support, on the table and off it. We celebrate wins, coach resilience in defeat and believe the friendships made here are worth as much as any trophy.
